Kits will be available at the Youth Services Reference Desk while supplies last. The activity ideas are also posted below if you prefer to use materials from home.
Pie Bakery Dramatic Play
Materials: Pie tin, pom poms (pie filling), large felt circle (pie crust), rolling pin, oven mitt or other props from home
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Open up your own home bakery this week! What kind of pies will you make? This is a fun dramatic play opportunity where you can assemble and "bake" the pies, deliver them around the house, sell them to hungry family members, and then make some more!
Why: Pretend play is important for imagination and developing social skills. When kids play, they have to take turns, problem solve, and compromise-- all important real-life skills!
Extra ideas:
*With a grown up, write down your secret pie recipe. First, write the ingredients you need for your pie. Then, write the steps (in order). This is a fun sequencing activity.
*Your bakery needs a sign! Get out the crayons and markers and start decorating.
*Read a few picture books all about baking!
