Kits will be available at the Youth Services Reference Desk while supplies last. The activity ideas are also posted below if you prefer to use materials from home.
Rainbow Noodle Threading
Materials: Dyed noodles (using liquid watercolors), yarn with tape on one end for threading
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Thread the noodles on the yarn to create a colorful necklace or decoration. When you finish playing, take it apart and save it for an easy quiet time activity.
Why: Threading noodles uses fine motor skills that are needed for writing and other every day activities. This activity also lends itself to naming colors and sorting. These categorization skills are important for pre-readers as they begin identifying letters and words.
Extra ideas:
*Learn the color order of a rainbow: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (noodle color not included!), violet. ROYGBIV.
*Can you make a pattern with your colorful noodles?
*Read a book about rainbows:
Wow! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood
Rainbow Stew by Cathryn Falwell
Rainbows by Martha E. H. Rustad
