Kits will be available at the Youth Services Reference Desk while supplies last. The activity ideas are also posted below if you prefer to use materials from home.
Pool noodle sailboats
Materials: 2" slice of a pool noodle, fun foam triangle for a sail, thin dowel rod or kabob stick (with sharp point removed)
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Assemble your sailboat and send it off into the water! Add your boat to bath time fun or take your water play outside.
Why: Water play is an introduction to scientific and mathematical concepts. As children fill up containers they learn about volume, as children make waves they learn about motion, and as children put objects in water they learn about buoyancy.
Extra ideas:
*Use a spray bottle, fan, or your own lungs to blow on the boat. How fast can you make it go?
*Sing "Row, row, row your boat" and pretend to row as you sing
Row, row, row, your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream!
*Will your boat hold passengers? Try balancing a Lego figure, acorn, or other toy on your boat. Does it still float?
I would love to see what you create! Please send a picture to clewis@egvpl.org if you would like to share.
