Kits will be available at the Youth Services Reference Desk while supplies last. The activity ideas are also posted below if you prefer to use materials from home.
Dance Party Kit
Materials: jingle bracelets made from pipe cleaners and jingle bells; ribbon wands made from shower curtain rings and ribbons
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Turn on your favorite music and have a dance party! Liven it up by making your own jingle bracelets to shake, and ribbon wands to wave. Do you need ideas for music? I love children’s artists Jim Gill and Laurie Berkner. Or, if you’re not feeling kid’s music, try some wedding classics like “YMCA”, “Shout”, or “The Twist.”
Why: Dancing is fun! It's a great way to practice gross motor skills, release endorphins (which make you happy!), and bond as a family. Take turns picking the song or genre and start moving your body.
Extra ideas:
*Turn your dance into a freeze dance. Play any song and freeze when an adult pauses the song.
*Ask your grownups what their favorite song was when they were younger. Add those songs to your party mix.
*Check out a CD from EGVPL! If you don't have a CD player at home, you can check out a CD player from us too! Try listening to music that is new to you-- a different language, genre, etc. What do you think?
*Dance showdown! Have every participant show his/her best move.
I would love to see you busy playing! Please send a picture to clewis@egvpl.org if you would like to share.
