Kits will be available at the Youth Services Reference Desk while supplies last. The activity ideas are also posted below if you prefer to use materials from home.
Colorful Bubble Process Art
Materials: Bubble solution made with 1 cup water, 1/2 cup clear liquid dish soap, 3 tablespoons light corn syrup, and liquid water colors; straws and/or bubble wands; white cardstock.
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Dip your straw in the bubble solution and blow your colorful bubbles onto a white piece of paper. When they pop on the paper, they will leave a colorful bubble mark. If your little one is tempted to suck in on the straw, use a wand instead.
Keep in mind this can stain, so make sure you do this project outside with clothes that can get messy!
Why: Blowing bubbles seems simple enough, but it is actually an oral motor skill that can take time to master. Blowing bubbles develops the small muscles in your child's mouth as they pucker their lips and blow. Strengthening these muscles is important for developing your child's ability to form clear sounds when speaking.
Extra ideas:
*Another way you can use these supplies is to fill a shallow tray with your colorful bubble solution and blow into it with your straw. This will make a lot of bubbles! Then, simply place your white piece of paper on top of the bubble mountain to capture a beautiful print.

*Sing a song while you create! Try one of these:
"Bubble, Bubble, Pop!"
One little red fish
Swimming in the water, (put your hands together and make them swim like a fish)
Swimming in the water,
Swimming in the water.
One little red fish
Swimming in the water,
Bubble, bubble, bubble, bubble...POP! (wiggle your fingers up, up, up and then clap your hands for the "POP!")
(Verses: 2 little blue fish, 3 little green fish, etc.)
Tune: "She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain"
I've got rainbows in my bubbles yes I do
I've got rainbows in my bubbles yes I do
When I look up towards the sun
They've got rainbows every one
I've got rainbows in my bubbles yes I do!
Tune: “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”
My bubbles flew over the ocean,
My bubbles flew over the sea,
My bubbles flew over the rainbow,
Oh come back, my bubbles, to me.
Come back, come back, oh come back my bubbles to me!
I would love to see you busy playing! Please send a picture to clewis@egvpl.org if you would like to share.
