Jo Ann presents stories of decorated soldiers, prisoners of war and brave nurses who selflessly served America during a very controversial time in our country’s history.
Historian Jo Ann Tufo celebrates the lives of many noteworthy Americans who served during the Civil War. Between 180,00 and 200,000 black men courageously served in the Union Army during the war. Tens of thousands also served in the Navy. Women served in many capacities during the war and were called to service as nurses, spies, soldiers and “conductors” on the Underground Railroad. The stories of abolitionists who bravely fought for justice before and during the war are also shared in vivid detail.
