Take a kit home and use the activity ideas below as inspiration for your playtime! Each week brings something new. Kits are available at the Youth Desk while supplies last.
Gratitude Game
Materials: Different color Popsicle sticks, small toy, bowl, and Gratitude Game color assignments
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Lay the sticks across a bowl and balance a small toy on top. Take turns carefully picking up one stick at a time and saying something you are thankful for. Use the chart to guide your answers. For example, if you pick up a green stick, name a place you are thankful for. If the toy falls, then that person needs to gobble like a turkey and set up the game again!
Why: Gratitude is an important thing to practice every day. People who take time to reflect upon the things that they are grateful for express more compassion, happiness, optimism, and are better equipped to deal with stress.
Extra ideas:
*If it's too tricky to play the game above, just place the straws in a jar, close your eyes and pick one! Then name something you are thankful for that goes along with the Gratitude Game color chart.
*Sing "May There Always Be Sunshine" and make up your own lyrics with things you are thankful for.
I would love to see you busy playing! Please send a picture to clewis@egvpl.org if you would like to share.
