Take a kit home and use the activity ideas below as inspiration for your playtime! Each week brings something new. Kits are available at the Youth Desk while supplies last.
Model Magic Creatures
Materials: Play dough or modeling clay (Model Magic), pipe cleaners, googly eyes, Popsicle sticks, or any other materials on hand!
*Come to the Youth Services Reference Desk to pick up a kit with materials (while supplies last).*
What: Use the materials to create a creature! All kinds are welcome-- flying, crawling, friendly, spooky, realistic, or magical.
Why: As children talk about their creations, they are expanding their vocabulary and learning how to communicate their ideas. Also, when children mold with clay they are building up the muscles they need to write.
Extra ideas:
Find a nature treasure (pinecone, acorn, leaf, stick, etc.) and press it into your clay to make a print.
Take the play dough or clay and make something new with the same materials. Talk about what you made or even make up a story about it! Keep your Model Magic clay in a sealed bag and it will stay soft.
