"Dot the Fire Dog" has some fire safety tips to share!

Today is National Fire Pup Day! You can pick up a "Dot the Fire Dog" craft kit after 9:15am at the Youth Services Reference Desk. Available while supplies last!

National Fire Pup Day recognizes the canine firefighters that have long been members of fire departments across the country. Although many breeds of dogs have served as firehouse dogs, by far the most recognized firedog breed is the Dalmatian. Watch these videos to learn about Dalmatians and discover why they are the traditional dog choice at fire stations.

When detectives suspect that a fire may have been started intentionally, an arson dog is brought to the scene. This "fire dog" learns to sniff out trace amounts of gasoline, lighter fluid, and other flammable liquids among a host of distracting smells. Click on the image to discover how various breeds of arson dogs perform such important tasks in the ebook, "Fire Dogs" by Sara Green. It is available on Hoopla Digital with your EGVPL card.

Dot the fire dog has a peaceful time at the firehouse — until the alarm rings! Join Dot and the firefighters as they save a man from a burning home, break out a window, rescue a frightened kitten, and much more. Watch the video read aloud of the book, "Dot the Fire Dog, written and illustrated by Lisa Desimini.

Enjoy the Weston Woods animated video retelling of "Dot the Fire Dog", with sign language insert.

Follow Clifford, the Big Red Dog on his journey in the video read aloud of the book, "Clifford: The Firehouse Dog", written and illustrated by Norman Bridwell.

Leave it to a cat to sneak in a chapter book on Fire Pup Day! Click on each video to watch a new chapter of the book, "The Fire Cat", written and illustrated by Esther Averill.

And we can't leave out Paw Patrol Marshall!

Sparky, the Fire Dog, has been around since 1951! Click on the image to learn Sparky's history, read a book called, "The Story of Sparky Dog", and explore Sparky games and activities, all brought to you by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). There's even a section for grown-ups!
