Do you have a pet at your house? Whether you have a pet or not, there is plenty to explore!

Perfect for young children, take a look at some house pets and learn the sounds they make.

Learn facts and characteristics of different kinds of pets in this longer video.

We have a large collection of fiction and nonfiction books about pets at the library. Stop in and browse our collection or request some online for curbside pickup with your EGVPL card.

Do you have an EGVPL card? There are ebooks about all kinds of pets on Hoopla Digital. From cockroaches to hermit crabs to guinea pigs to miniature horses, there's something for everyone to explore!

Have you ever wondered why dogs chase their tails or how cats manage to land on their feet all the time? Click on the image to check out the ebook, "50 Wacky Things Pets Do", written by Heidi Fiedler and illustrated by Marta Sorte, takes a look at the many things pets do, from dogs snacking on poop and guppies jumping out of tanks, to cats meowing and ferrets dancing happily. Wacky facts and illustrations make this ebook a lot of fun!

Click the image to read the first of four volumes of "The Secret Life of Pets" ecomics that are available on Hoopla Digital. What do pets get into when we're not around? Discover the truth as Max, Duke, Mel, Gidget, Snowball, Chloé, Ozone and the gang lead you on a series of all-new, madcap adventures.

Some pets sit.
Some pets stay.
Some pets fetch,
And some pets play.

Come one, come all, to the pet show! Dogs and cats, horses and chickens, hamsters and chinchillas - this book celebrates animal companions of all shapes and sizes. Who will take home the coveted Best in Show ribbon? Watch the fun read aloud of the book, "Some Pets", written by Angela DiTerlizzi and illustrated by Brendan Wenzel to find out!

Once there was a boy who wanted something to take care of - something of his very own. He begged his mother for a puppy until she said YES! The boy loved his puppy. He fed him and played with him and cuddled him. But soon, the dog wanted something to take care of - something of his very own. So the dog gets a pet cat, the cat gets a pet bird, the bird gets a pet worm, the worm gets a pet flea... Watch the video read aloud of the book, "My Pet Wants a Pet", written by Elise Broach and illustrated by Eric Barclay to see the chaos unfold.

Arfy is a homeless mutt who lives in a box in an alley. Arfy writes to every person on Butternut Street about what a great pet he'd make. His letters to prospective owners share that he's house broken, has his own squeaky bone, and can learn to live with cats. But... no one wants him. Won't anyone open their heart and home to a lonesome dog? Watch the video read aloud of the book, "Can I Be Your Dog", written and illustrated by Troy Commings, to find out if Arfy finds a home.

Norman the goldfish isn’t what this little boy had in mind. He wanted a different kind of pet - one that could run and catch, or chase string and climb trees, a soft furry pet to sleep on his bed at night. Definitely not Norman. But when he tries to trade Norman for a "good pet," things don’t go as he planned. Could it be that Norman is a better pet than he thought? Watch the video read aloud of the book, "Not Norman", written by Kelly Bennett and illustrated by Noah Z. Jones, to learn that sometimes you find the good in something that you didn’t know
you wanted.

I'm sorry—this book is not for you. This book is for CATS ONLY. What's that you say? You are a cat? Okay... get ready to prove it when you watch the fun video read aloud of the book, "Cat Secrets" by Jeff Czekaj.

"Although Nerdy Birdy is not actually a pet, he likes reading, video games, and reading about video games, which immediately disqualifies him for membership in the cool crowd. One thing is clear: being a nerdy birdy is a lonely lifestyle. One day, when he is at his lowest point, Nerdy Birdy meets a flock just like him. Will Nerdy Birdy discover that there are far more nerdy birdies than cool birdies in the sky? Find out when you watch the video read aloud of the book, "Nerdy Birdy", written by Aaron Reynolds and illustrated by Matt Davies.

One winter night, a cozy house full of animals is awakened by a knock at the front door. They have no idea what they'll find on the other side, but Max the duck is the last thing they expect. Soon this larger-than-life house guest is making himself at home and forcing his way into the hearts of his reluctant hosts. What becomes of duck? Find out when you watch the video read aloud of the book, "Duck at the Door", written and illustrated by Jackie Urbanovic.

The Copley County Animal Shelter has an aardvark, a lizard, a goose, a weasel, and plenty more. But do they have a puppy? The girl with her wagon is ready to adopt a dog - not an aardvark, lizard, or goose! Can the shelter manager help her to find her perfect pet? Find out when you watch the video read aloud of the book, "I Want a Dog", written and illustrated by Jon Agee.

Meet Lucy. Meet Lucy's Pet. She calls him Squeaker. Lucy and Squeaker have the best day ever, until things start to go wrong... Find out if children do make terrible pets when you watch the animated video retelling of the book, "Children Make Terrible Pets", written and illustrated by Peter Brown.

Do you have a dog or another pet? Better not let them near this book! You might just end up saying, "This Book Just Ate My Dog!" (written and illustrated by Richard Byrne).

A curious little fish wants to explore the big, wide world outside of his fish bowl in a house in Cross Street. One brave leap from the window takes the little fish down into the gutter, along the Thames and beyond. As the little fish will learn, a big adventure is often what it takes to make us appreciate the familiarity of home. This show has been created by Lyndie Wright, Sarah Wright and Mike Shepherd in association with Little Angel Theatre in London, England.

Watch and listen to this cute song for young children about pets and the sounds they make. Featured are a dog, cat, mouse, bird, fish, and... LION?

Get up and get moving while you learn about some pets that people have in their homes.

Learn to draw Max from "The Secret Life of Pets" with Art of Kids Hub.
